The lifework of Rina and Newt Malerman
Rina Malerman earned her B.F.A and B.S. in Ed. at Tyler School of Fine Arts, Temple University, where she studied printmaking with Morris Blackburn, and Romas Viesulas, painting with Furman Fink and Alexander Abels., and sculpture with Raphael Sabatini ,Rudy Staffel and Steve Lewis.
She taught at Harcum College and The Miquon School Abington Art Center and Settlemant Music School
Rina is a graduate of the Barnes Foundation Program and Seminar.
Rina, early in her career was known as a painter of children's portraits. A substantial body of her work include collagraphs, viscosity etchings, and hand made cast paper for which she received many awards. She served as guest lecturer in experimental printmaking at Lehigh University.
Painting commissions and prints hang in public and private collections throughout the Delaware Valley, and in New York, New Jersey, Florida and California.
Currently she devotes herself to exploring the mysteries of glass.
Newt Malerman earned his B.F.A. and B.S. in Ed. at Tyler. He studied sculpture with Boris Blai and Raphael Sabatini, and Welding with Raphael Ferrar.
He was Director of Art at the laboratory school of The Temple University Teachers College. He later became president of a large graphics-oriented business.
Newt is a Barnes Foundation Seminarian and is represented in private collections in Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, and Palm Beach. His public work includes architectural sculpture for Temple Shalom, Cedar Grove, N.J., and for the Holmes Avenue branch of the Philadelphia Public Library, where he worked with Louis Kahn, who juried the project.
He has exhibited at many art shows, and won first prize in sculpture at the Phillips Mill Bucks County Annual. He and Rina have also exhibited in several two-person shows, including an extensive retrospective at Lehigh University.
He continues his work in mixed media, including welded metals, woodcarving and glass.
